 Kaden's Reprieve by Dariel Raye

She needs a safe haven, he wants his freedom. Add a supernatural matchmaker and an unexpected mentor, and their lives will never be the same.

Tanya has been running for her life for two years, but when Ms. Lillian, owner of the exclusive “Heaven’s Touch” match making service, graciously gives her a week’s stay at her private bed and breakfast in St. Augustine, FL, she seizes the opportunity to escape to a possible hideaway.

Kaden is of a rare and precious race prized for extraordinary abilities. He is also half-demon, remanded to Kushiel’s custody centuries ago. Allowed to leave Hell twice a year, three days each time – Beltane, and Samhain, his life thus far has been filled with slavery, torture, and despair, and he is nearly convinced that his soul is beyond redemption. Still, he longs for freedom. Can Tanya redeem him? Can Kaden dare hope for a reprieve?

Friday the 13th Horror Story

Usually on Friday the 13th I curl up in front of the TV, watch horror movies all night and pig out, but this September the 13th I managed to experience first hand what it is like to work so very hard on something and then have it quickly taken away.  My son who is an avid Xbox player decided to take my flash drive and place it inside his Xbox so he can save his games. This may not have been a big deal, but all of my hard work was wiped out or hidden from said flash drive and my graphic covers, and book I've been working on diligently for the past year is now out of sight.  The only thing I can hope is that my IT guy at work can retrieve all hidden docs and I wouldn't have to start over from scratch.

Needless to say at the time I was outraged and my son for the very first time saw and realized how important it is and shall be to stay clear of my writing tools from now on.  That night I couldn't look at him without wanting to cry, and even though we both did enough crying over it as he felt guilty and I felt lost, I couldn't forget it as easily as I could forgive him for it.  He is after all only eleven, but smart enough to have known that all flash drives in the house belong to me and have either my reviews, pictures, short stories or past and present books stored in them. I remember one evening he even asked if he can take one and I had specifically told him he couldn't as they were all in use.

I managed to find the first five chapters but the sting of having to start even from there is frightening to say the least.  I was after all two to three chapters away from finally completing a full length manuscript, close to 60,000 words gone and plots and twists although still fresh in the mind will never come out the same again.  Today, my IT guy picked up the flash drive and said he would do his best but of course I am still unsure anything can be saved.  It is all in the hands of the one above and hope he can allow my IT guy to manage a miracle.  If he does I'd say this book was definitely meant to be released, and I will undoubtedly be a very, very happy writer, that continues to be extremely blessed.

As for the kid I will have to buckle up and get him his own flash drive and wish the child that shared the amazing secret of being able to save your games if you had a flash drive an Xbox system malfunction.  Well maybe not, but the thought did make me smile a bit during the now dreadful waiting period before I hear back from IT.

Restless Moments

As my kid looked a little forward to another school year I couldn't help but let the nerves set in.  This year he is starting middle school and I can hardly believe it.  The years since he was first placed in my arms have flown by and I can't seem to cope with him getting older.

Pretty soon he will be dating, attending high school for the first time as well as college and most importantly working.  He is a smart boy and honest to boot.  He is not afraid to speak his mind, although sometimes it may not be nice, but he is definitely out right, no holds barred and I love it.

Growing up for me was a bit difficult since I was always quiet, afraid of conflict and most of all deathly afraid of bullies. I focused more on my studies and reading was always my escape route.  I can dive into a book and lose myself in it entirely.  I had friends and wonderful older sisters who stood up for me, but it always bothered me that I couldn't do it for myself.  To date I still let others say and do things, and allow them to get away with it, to an extent of course.  Once you've pushed me too far you will see my wrath and believe it or not I can get ugly.

My top two defense mode mechanisms to really get me going is anyone taking advantage of my kid or being talked down to.  Every offense is counted and once you've reached your third strike then I am officially done.  I try to see all things optimistically, I take into account that you may be having a bad day or worse home life but if you are adult enough to know things aren't going well, than you can also be smart enough to know not to let that spew onto others.

I got a little ahead of myself here, this story was about my son attending middle school for the first time and my having anxiety issues over it.  At the end he had a good day, but this is the start of the school year and all is always good in the beginning.  I can only hope he can continue to defend himself and always keep the communication lines open as far as we're concerned.  The years are creeping up on me and I am missing that innocent little angel that turned my life around, but I am also looking forward to what lies ahead.

I may have had a restless, no sleep at all night last night but I intend to have a better one today as I now know he can hold his own if ever in a tough situation.

Safety Alert Tips

PLEASE Share this!!!

WRITTEN BY A COP: Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one's life. In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation... This is for you, and for you to share with your wife, your children, & everyone you know. After reading these 9 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,
DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you... Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.  RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat:
DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.
Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women
are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then,
it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..' The lady then said that it sounded like the baby
had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full blast so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors! Please pass this on. This info should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc, you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better to be safe than sorry... Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one's life.
